The purpose of this study is considers the nature of classification in the digital age both in library practice and in information retrieval theory. The works of researchers on the subject of functioning library classifications in the Internet were analyzed. This study is provided a description of current trends of library classifications. The areas of integration of library classification and information technology have been considered. The paper describes ontologies and subjecting used in digital environments. The properties of the folksonomy tagging have been investigated too. Extensive coverage is given to certain specific aspects in the study of this theme.
