The very concept of littérature-monde is full of contradictions. The present text presents the ideological foundations and the international conjuncture in the framework of which it arose. In form of thesis and in a polemic way, the emergence of this notion is placed into what can be called crisis of French culture which seems to go together with a crisis in Francophonie. Littérature-monde is created on the basis of the English concept of World Literatures in English. In order to explain the success of this term, it needs to be located into what can be called with Bourdieu “the field of knowledge”
