On the borderland of the sciences – the case of evolutionary epistemology and some other applications of evolutionary theory

The aim of this paper is to present the doctrine of evolutionary epistemology, based on the positions of B. Gawecki and K.R. Popper. Evolutionary epistemology is an attempt to apply the mechanisms of biological evolution discovered by Darwin to the explanation of cognition and the growth of knowledge. Evolutionary epistemology is an example of how the Darwinian paradigm has expanded in contemporary science. To show that this is an instance of a broader tendency, the presentation of evolutionary epistemology has been preceded by a comprehensive survey of similar attempts made in various fields.praforma@wp.plInstytut Socjologii, Uniwersytet w Białymstok
