Background: As many as 15-20 % of the children and young people (0-18 years) in Norway have mental health problems. At the same time around 40 % of them experience parental breakup in their childhood. Most people think that the family is crucial in children's life, but what is the literature saying? Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted to discover the connection between family relations or time with the family and the young people's mental health. Searches were done in PubMed and PsychInfo. Only studies written in English or Norwegian were included. Totally nine articles were included in this student task.
