Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET) utilize multi-hop communications to forward packets across the network consuming power, processing, and memory resources. In an ideal MANET the nodes are unselfish and forward packets on demand. The real-time, ad hoc and open characteristics of MANET make it susceptible to selfish and malicious nodes affecting performance. In a MANET, some of the nodes may decide to selfishly cooperate or to not cooperate, with other nodes. The selfish nodes re- duce the overall effectiveness of network communications, decrease packet delivery rates and increase packet delivery time.
