Free calcium ions (Cf) are stored in the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) until the muscle is activated. During activation, calcium ions are released from the SR and bind to troponin (bound calcium denoted Cb) along the actin filament, inducing contractions. The values kn and the arrows indicate the rate and equilibrium dynamics of each reaction, respectively.</p
