Panels show double immunostaining for cofilin-1 (red) and cell-type specific markers for neurons (MAP2 and NF-H), neuronal axons (APP), oligodendrocytes (CNPase), astrocytes (GFAP), microglia/macrophages (CD11b) and endothelial cells (CD31). Cell nuclei are stained blue. Yellow boxes denote the areas magnified in adjacent panels. Cofilin aggregates were observed in neuronal dendrites and axons (arrows) but not in other cell types. Brain sections were from ischemic cortex collected 24 hours after 30 minutes MCA occlusion and are representative of n = 4 mice.</p
