(A) The degree of purity of SMA and LEN was assessed by SDS-PAGE analysis and deemed >95% pure, where the proteins can be seen migrating as a single band just below the 14 kDa band of the molecular marker (as can be seen in Figs 1 and 2). (B) The molecular ion peaks with the highest intensities correspond to the theoretical molecular weight of LEN (m/z 12640) and monomeric SMA (12735). Both spectra confirm that the ompA leader sequence has been successfully removed following translocation into the periplasmic space. Predictions were performed using peptidemass [32].
