Study of alterations of brain functional connectivity in schizophrenia from image analysis by Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging: a gender perspective

p { margin-bottom: 0.1in; line-height: 120%; } Schizophrenia is a severe psychiatric disorder that has a profound effect on both the individual affected and society, also is a complex disease, that affects cognitive syndrome that seem to originate from disruption of bain connectivity caused by genetic or environmental factors or both. Morphological abnormalities of the brain are observed in patients with schizophrenia, such as less grey matter thickness and changes in the volumes in different brain areas, studying the morphological anomalies between patients and controls is key to better understanding this complex disease. Psychopathology the symptoms could divide in two types, negative symptoms (impaired motivation, reduction in spontaneous speech, and social withdrawal), and cognitive impairment, while positive symptoms are the visual and auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH), the latter being one of the most common symptoms [1].
