The embryos were collected at 25°C for 24 h and cultured at 25°C throughout because there was no GAL80ts in these experiments. The larvae were irradiated at 4–5 d after egg laying with 0 or 4000 R of X-rays. -IR samples were dissected 24 h after (mock) irradiation and +IR samples were dissected at times indicated on the figure, fixed and stained for DNA and imaged for RFP/GFP. DNA images were used to locate the pouch when possible (white circles). The discs are shown anterior left and dorsal up when discernable; in irradiated discs, p35 expression results in ‘undead’ cells that overgrow into folded layers (arrowheads), making it difficult to locate the pouch or disc orientation.
