The formation of desiccation patterns in a biological sessile drop is a natural and ubiquitous phenomenon that involves complex physical/chemical/biological processes. This thesis studies the desiccation patterns of blood sessile drops, i.e., whole blood and blood plasma. It presents the desiccation processes of blood sessile drops and discloses the underlying mechanisms of the formation of blood desiccation patterns. It also investigates the major influencing factors on blood desiccation patterns and develops the effective and novel methods to control the pattern morphologies. Furthermore, it explores the potential applications of the blood desiccation patterns in health diagnosis
