Epidemiology of gonorrhoea, chlamydia and HIV in men who have sex with men, and evaluation of new prevention strategies.

Rates of gonorrhoea have increased significantly in recent years, particularly among men who have sex with men. This thesis examines the transmission of gonorrhoea between sexual partners, particularly to investigate whether gonorrhoea of the throat transmits to sexual partners through oral sex and tongue kissing. The thesis then examines the transmission of chlamydia, to see if this is different from gonorrhoea. The findings in this thesis highlight the need for new strategies to prevent throat gonorrhoea
