Phagocytic clearance was measured by determining viable counts of wild type (wt), S5nA deletion (ΔS5nA) and complementation (comp) strains after 30 min of incubation of opsonized bacteria in RPMI medium in the absence (control) or in the presence of neutrophils (PMN) at an MOI of 1.
