A range of Al-Ti-Ce and Al-Ti-Ni ternary alloys has been produced by rapid solidification processing to examine their potential for elevated temperature applications. The aim has been to generate microstructnres comprising large volume fractions of thermally stable intermetallic phase(s), dispersed finely and uniformly in an aluminium matrix. The alloys, with total solute concentrations in the range 4-20 wt%, have been produced in thin (30-70 μm) ribbon form using the chill block melt spinning technique under a controlled He atmosphere.
