(A) Plasma concentration of total SM in lean subjects and abdominal obese (AO) subjects in the normal, pre-diabetes (Pre-DM), and diabetes (DM) groups. Plasma SM species were determined by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, and total SM content was obtained by the sum of each SM concentration. Data are expressed as the mean ± SE. P-values were derived from an independent t-test (lean vs. AO, * p # p p p p p < 0.01.</p
