The gut microbiota has attracted a great deal of interest in recent years due to its association with many diseases. Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), the end products of dietary fiber fermentation by the intestinal microbiota, are among the most frequently discussed gut metabolites. As the sample handling method greatly affects the integrity of data, this study investigated the most important parameters that affect the bias of SCFA comparisons in human fecal studies.
