Pregnancy is a life stage requiring urgent attention to prevent the perinatal complications associated with excessive maternal gestational weight gain, and to halt the generational cycle of obesity. This mixed-methods research described the key components of interventions designed to prevent excessive maternal gestational weight gain, and explored how to equip health professionals to provide women with the lifestyle advice and support. Online and face-to-face training have the potential to change health professionals’ practice related to weight management in pregnancy. The impact of training may be enhanced if recommended practice is supported by system-level health policy and funding
