The model system consists of two competitive hematopoietic clones. Clone 1 is designated as healthy cells while clone 2 is designated as a pre-malignant but mutant lineage. Both clones are controlled by shared, global feedback signals. Within each clone there is hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) renewal (cell compartments H1 and H2, arrow I), delayed differentiation to myeloid cells (cell compartments M1 and M2, arrow II), and delayed differentiation to lymphoid cells (cell compartments L1 and L2, arrow III).
