INFORMATION PRACTICES: THE PROFILE OF TRANSEXUAL WOMEN AND TRAVESTIS OF LGBT SPACE

The present study presents the preliminary results of the master's research entitled "Informational Practices: LGBTs and Empowerment in LGBT Space", qualified in June 2018 in the Post-Graduation Program in Information Science of the Federal University of Paraíba (PPGCI / UFPB). It aims to outline the profile of transsexual and transvestite women users of the LGBT State Reference Center for LGBT Rights and Confrontation with Homophobia in Paraíba (LGBT Space), in order to understand their information practices, since the social markers inherent to this public are the first aspect to be analyzed in order to understand their practices. For in general, these subjects are marginalized because they do not meet social expectations and present themselves differently to expressions of gender and sexuality that are hegemonically acceptable. The information practices insert in the concept of praxis, in order to understand objective and subjective aspects of the actions of the informational subjects contextualizing them. The paper associates the concept of informational practices with the analytical and methodological category of gender relations, considering the analysis of subjects and understanding the various axes of historically constructed subordination that structure the experiences of transvestites and transsexual women. The methodology has quantitative and qualitative nature and exploratory character. It is characterized as documentary and field research, descriptive and correlational. For the analysis will be used the descriptive statistics and the intersectionality perspective. Understanding how the informational practices of transvestites and transsexual women are promoted offers theoretical and practical support for gender equity and respect for diversity
