This thesis explores habit theory in the realm of sugary drink consumption. Through a narrative review and empirical investigation I found that individuals with a stronger habit of drinking sugary drinks have limited control over their drink behaviour. Nonetheless, when exposed to educational campaigns, they do appear to be able to take control over their drink behaviour and respond to the intervention accordingly. I also found that the two most common measures of habit capture different constructs. Together, this research highlights a number of common assumptions within the habit literature and provides the foundations for more research in this area
