Wildtype (WT, circles) and wMel-infected (Mel, diamonds) A. aegypti were orally challenged with both ZIKV (blue) and DENV-3 (orange), with the viruses offered at approximately equivalent titres. Mosquitoes were collected at 7, 14 and 21 days post-infection, and disseminated infection levels were determined for individual head/thorax samples via RT-qPCR using specific TaqMan probes. Mel mosquitoes displayed significantly higher proportion of uninfected mosquitoes than WT at all three time points (A).
