Adnexal masses continue to pose diagnostic difficulty in classifying malignancies. Two methods of classification, a Subgroup Scoring and an Ultrasound based Rule system have been studied and proven to assist sonographers with differentiating malignant and benign adnexal lesions. Additional tools are also being studied to increase the accuracy of diagnosis. Contrast enhancement during transvaginal ultrasound scanning improves the visualization of benign versus malignant lesions. Another area of interest for diagnosis is the involvement of the serum CA-125 to improve the accuracy of sonography in correctly marking malignancies prior to histological examination
