This qualitative case study explored the characteristics of authentic engagement of high school seniors. School engagement is a positive influence on a student's academic achievement, but to fully comprehend school engagement, understanding and perspectives of student experiences is needed. This study intended to capture student perceptions of the factors and characteristics that shaped their sense of belonging, connectedness, and engagement with high school. Literature pertaining to a creating sense of belonging, engagement opportunities of high school students, and the different dimensions of school engagement were reviewed and served as the research foundation for the study.
