A Russian prisoner is hard at work ploughing a field behind a team of horses under the walls of Lichtenstein Castle near Muensingen. Allied POW\u27s supplemented local agricultural labor which allowed the Germans to maintain food production despite the mobilization of farmers into the German Army. This prisoner is leading a pair of horses; most farmers used oxen due to the army\u27\u27s demand for horses at the front.https://scholarworks.wmich.edu/wwi_pow_camps/1536/thumbnail.jp
