Spain is an interesting case study for examining the links between female education and fertility, because while Spain lagged behind the rest of Europe in terms of both the expansion of tertiary education and the timing of the first and second demographic transitions (Lesthaeghe 2014), these processes occurred at faster rates in Spain than they did in other countries once they had been set in motion.In order to examine in more detail how the educational gradient of fertility has changed over time, and particularly during the recent economic crisis, we analyse parity-specific fertility trends in a southern region of Spain, Andalusia.Peer reviewe
