Drugs and addictive substances in a selected diagnostic institution.

In the Czech Republic, institutional care is not given enough attention to the issue of drugs in adolescents, or is this issue mapped out. In the case of children in institutional settings, we assume an increased incidence of risk behavior, including addictive substance abuse. Children get to the diagnostic institute mainly because of various educational problems, such as high absenteeism, offenses such as theft and finally addictive substance abuse. The aim of staying in a diagnostic institute is to make a child a comprehensive diagnosis and based on it to decide where the child will be placed after the stay in the diagnostic institute. Theoretical part is focused on the main terminology regarding drugs and institutional care. In the practical part, the focus is on research, which has two main topics regarding research questions. Those topics are precautions and their effectiveness in Children Diagnostic Institute Homole (further referred as CDI Homole) and the most frequently used drugs in CDI Homole. The aim is to map the use of addictive substances and precautions in CDI Homole. The goal is achieved using qualitative research, with data being obtained using a semi-structured interview. The research file is the staff of the selected diagnostic institute. Purposive sampling was used in this research. The data is evaluated using grounded theory. Through the interviews it was possible to conclude that the CDI Homole measures are enough and effective, but the problem is very limited control. Workers have no right to test their children for drugs, resulting in very frequent situations where the child is under the influence of the drug and the worker has to decide whether to call the police to test a child or not. It was also found that THC, alcohol, nicotine, and Methamphetamine are the most commonly used drugs in Homole, regardless of age. Children at primary school are also experienced with these drugs and are placed in a diagnostic institute. The benefit for the practice is the resulting pilot research for a broader study of substance abuse in children and adolescents in institutional care
