Intercropping of legumes with cereals is a promising possibility to produce fodder protein while creating few costs and using few resources. Practicable cultivation methods of intercropping with protein peas/barley and field beans/oats were developed, both with mixing ratios of 80% and 40%, respectively, of the usual local seeding amount for the single crop (possible for winter crops as well as for spring crops). The grain serves as a support crop, suppresses weeds and provides a risk coverage in years of poor grain legume development.
