Dépister les nouveau-nés : évolutions, débats et consensus

International audienceThis study focuses on the social and political implications of the substantial expansion of genetic tests and neonatal screening. The introduction of neonatal screening for cystic fibrosis is one of the significant development sthat have fuelled debate on their appropriateness. It has raised a series of questions on the pros and cons, the role of evidence in biomedicine, and the articulation between the therapeutic approach and foetal selection. In this respect France provides an ideal research field as it was one of the first countries to generalize this screening, launched in January 2002. Several questions arise: What were the terms of the debate in France and theirunderlying logics ? How was consensus reached ? More generally, what does this screening tell us about policieson life forms today ?Le développement substantiel des tests génétiques et des dépistages à la naissance nous incite à en étudier les enjeux sociaux et politiques. Parmi ces dépistages, celui qui concerne la mucoviscidose a connu une évolution notable retenus etquant aux critères d’éligibilité retenus et aux techniques mises en oeuvre. Cette évolution a provoqué un débat sur son opportunité et ouvert une série de questionnements sur le rapport bénéfices/inconvénients, la place de l’administration de la preuve scientifique en biomédecine et l’articulation entre approche thérapeutique et sélection foetale. La France, qui a été l’un des premiers pays à avoir généralisé ce dépistage en janvier 2002, offre un terrain privilégié d’enquête dans ce domaine. Dès lors, plusieurs questions se posent : quels étaient initialement les termes du débat en France et les logiques impliquées ? Comment un consensus a-t-il été atteint ?
