This dissertation aims to explore the relevance of stage management training in 21st century Britain. The study will evaluate the institutions in the UK that offer specialised training in stage management, and discuss the relevance of professional training against shadowing, short courses and experiential learning. The study explores the progression of stage management from its emergence in Egyptian ritual, to its formalisation and establishment within British theatre and curriculum. This study is crucial for students and individuals who wish to begin a career in stage management. Primary research is carried out through interviews with professional stage managers, online testimonials, and employer job descriptions.
