This dissertation focuses primarily on subcultural style in Britain between the late 1970's punk scene and modern day society. The study will highlight the stereotypical punk subcultural style and what meaning this originally had for individuals during the late 1970's with regards to politics and social class. On researching the public trends in today's society, I will use a series of photographs to represent similar fashion trends and show that the same symbolic meaning does not apply in the same manner today. I will provide theoretical and photographic evidence through this dissertation to demonstrate that original subcultural trends have in fact become a part of mainstream style in modern day society.ba_filmmedunpub1474_ethesesunpu
