Can the modern technological equipment (specifically within the Olivier theatre in the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain) enhance a production of a Classic Greek text?

This dissertation examines the changing technology in the modern theatre and how this can be used to enhance contemporary theatre productions. Exploring the Classical forms of theatre used during the Ancient Greek period in comparison to the modern equipment available within the Olivier theatre at the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain, these methods are explored through the creation of a 1:50 scale model box of the Oliver theatre showcasing two Classical Greek texts - Oedipus the King (1986) and Antigone (1986) by Sophocles. Beginning with an exploration into the Classical Greek theatre methods of staging and scenography, the study will investigate the construction materials and methods of technology in use during this period and examine how this technology has been adapted since this period. Shifting focus to the Olivier stage in the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain, the research will examine the playing space and the technological capabilities of the theatre, looking closely at the large drum revolve imbedded within the stage.
