O papel das redes sociais na migração contemporânea de gaúchos em Roraima

This study’s main aim was to understand and to explain the role of social networks in the contemporary migration of Gauchos to Roraima. Since the 1960s there has been an increase in the number of people borne in Rio Grande do Sul that reside in this state. During the years 1970, 1980 and 1990, some incentives and calls were fundamental to the migration of Gauchos to Roraima, namely: Project Rondon, the Advanced Campus of the Federal University of Santa Maria, the Military Police of Roraima, the Armed Forces and the agricultural colonization project. Currently, from an a priori stance, there is no evidence of attractive forces that they could motivate Gauchos to reside in Roraima. Yet the flow of Gauchos to this state is reflecting a steady increase. We try to understand why this has been occurring. Although the incentives and calls are finished, the migration of Gauchos to this state, which is so different and with so little appeal, continues to increase. This is what we tried to understand in this current research. The research focused on Gauchos who arrived between 2000 and 2011 in Roraima. A total of twenty-eight (28) heads of households were interviewed. For comparative purposes we further interviewed ten (10) Gauchos who had arrived in the years 1970, 1980 and 1990. The methodological approach was based on the analysis of oral reports given by respondents. Additionally, there were bibliographic and documentary reviews, and population data elicited from official sources. However, to understand migration as a social fact, a historical analysis of the socioeconomic and demographic transformations of the states of origin and destination, RS and RR, respectively was first done. Secondly, a historical review was conducted on the migration of Gauchos to the Amazon and to Roraima in particular, during the 1970s and 1980s. Finally, the analysis of contemporary migration among Gauchos to Roraima, based on oral reports given by respondents, was undertaken. The findings confirm that social networks of kinship, friendship and place of origin play a central role in this migratory flow and are therefore crucial for the adaptation and fixation of migrants in Roraima. Given the conditions and economic structure of Roraima State, the research confirms that the Gauchos who currently migrate to Roraima depend on social relations that have been established with gauchos already residing in this state. Without these ties Gauchos would not be migrating to resettle in Roraima.O presente trabalho teve como objetivo central entender e explicar o papel das redes sociais na migração contemporânea de gaúchos em Roraima. Desde os anos 1960 há um incremento de pessoas nascidas no Rio Grande do Sul residindo neste estado. Durante os anos 1970, 1980 e 1990 alguns incentivos e chamarizes foram fundamentais para a ida de gaúchos para Roraima, a saber: Projeto Rondon, Campus Avançado da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, a Polícia Militar de Roraima, as Forças Armadas e os projetos de colonização agrícola. Atualmente, a priori não se verificam elementos que possam chamar gaúchos para irem residir em Roraima. Ainda assim o fluxo de gaúchos se deslocando para aquele estado tem crescido constantemente. Buscamos entender por que isso tem acontecido. Acabados os incentivos e chamarizes a migração de gaúchos a este estado tão diferente e com tão poucos atrativos continua aumentando. É isso que buscamos compreender e explicar na presente pesquisa. A pesquisa foi focada nos gaúchos que chegaram a Roraima entre 2000 e 2011. Foram levantadas as histórias de 28 chefes de famílias de gaúchos residindo em Boa Vista, mais outras 10 histórias de chefes de famílias de gaúchos residindo nessa cidade que haviam chegado nos anos 1970, 1980 e 1990, para fins comparativos. A caminhada metodológica teve como principal base de análise os relatos orais concedidos pelos entrevistados, além das pesquisas documentais e bibliográficas e dados populacionais oficiais. Entretanto, para entendermos a migração como um fato social total primeiro foi feita uma análise histórica das transformações socioeconômica e demográficas das sociedades de origem e destino (RS e RR). Num segundo momento foi feito um levantamento histórico sobre a ida de gaúchos em direção a Amazônia e para Roraima em particular nas décadas de 1970 e 1980. Por fim a análise da migração contemporânea de gaúchos para aquele estado a partir dos relatos orais dados pelos entrevistados. Os resultados da pesquisa indicam o papel central que as redes sociais de parentesco, amizade e conterraneidade têm neste movimento migratório, além de cruciais para a adaptação e permanência destes migrantes em solo roraimense. Dadas as condições e estrutura econômica de Roraima, a pesquisa aponta que os gaúchos que tem chegado a Roraima atualmente vão através das relações sociais que tem com outros gaúchos já residentes no estado. Não fossem esses laços os gaúchos não estariam indo morar em Roraim
