Le géographe face à son objet. Distanciation et méthode à travers l'exemple d'un terrain urbain frontalier.

This paper considers the methods as well as the practices implemented to conduct a territorial survey in a foreign context. Accordingly, border is not considered like an object, but more like an identifying element, which makes it possible to the researcher to affirm his identity during his research. Thus, it determines a stable point of view describing and explaining the the world's evolutions. This assumption will be illustrated by two examples drawn from a doctoral research recently undertaken within this laboratory space. The first example developed puts forward the confrontation between the researcher and the border definitons produced by the inhabitants living in a cross-border space, including Romania and Hungary. The second example resulting from this doctoral research engages the reflexion in a scale of finer analysis. The border condition serves a reflexion on the analysis of small cities, microcosms within a world in perpetual changes. These examples will be then put into perspective through the comparison with the territorial practices in the French Geography. If the remote territory remains an important feature, the various currents of the discipline do not grant the same place to the experiment of « depaysement ».Ce texte envisage les méthodes et les pratiques d'enquête de terrain dans un contexte étranger. A ce titre, la frontière n'est pas convoquée comme un objet, mais comme un élément d'identification qui permet au chercheur d'affirmer son identité au cours de sa recherche. Elle détermine donc un point de vue stable à partir duquel il peut décrire et expliquer les évolutions du monde. Cette hypothèse sera illustrée par deux exemples tirés d'une recherche doctorale récemment menée au coeur de cet espace laboratoire. Le premier exemple développé met en exergue la confrontation du chercheur aux définitions de la frontière produites par les habitants d'un espace transfrontalier, ici compris entre Roumanie et Hongrie. Le second exemple issu de cette recherche doctorale engage la réflexion dans une échelle d'analyse plus fine. La condition frontalière sert une réflexion sur l'analyse des petites villes, microcosmes au sein d'un monde en perpétuelles mutations. Ces exemples seront ensuite remis en perspective par la comparaison avec les pratiques de terrain à l'oeuvre dans la géographie française. Si le terrain lointain reste une constante, les différents courants de la discipline n'accordent pas la même place à l'expérience du dépaysement
