La production industrielle de microalgues a lieu principalement en conditions solaires et dans des bassins de culture ouverts. Dans l’optique d’étendre la gamme de souches cultivables et de réduire les coûts de production de la biomasse, de nombreux systèmes de culture clos (aussi appelés photobioréacteurs ou PBRs) se développent pour la production solaire de microalgues.
