Des transformations chimiques ont été réalisées sur des terpénoïdes isolés à partir de plantes de la famille Asteraceae de la flore des Andes Vénézuéliennes. Le sesquiterpène 7β,9α-longipin-dihydroxy-2-én-1-one a été isolé à partir de Stevia lucida Lagasca. L’étude de la réactivité de ce composé a conduit à la synthèse de deux produits issus de réactions d’oxydation et à six produits qui résultent de réarrangements moléculaires. Parmi ces six produits de réarrangement, deux nouveaux composés, le merida-2,7-diène-1,9-dione et le 1-oxo-2-én-uladan-7(9)-olide, ont été caractérisés ; ces terpènes originaux, dont les squelettes carbonés sontsans précédent, ont été nommés Meridane et Uladane.
