This study deals with the design of an electromagnetic device for a new de-stacking process of non magnetic sheets in the stamping sites of private car manufacturers. First, the mechanical behavior of the oiled sheets stack submitted to a separating stress is studied. The characterization of the de-stacking stress permits the author to propose several ways to design the electromagnetic separator. Many alternative magnetic field based structures of electromagnetic separator were proposed and studied using the finite elements method and their performances discussed.
