L’analyse histologique de cerveaux des patients atteints par la maladie Alzheimer met en évidence deux lésions moléculaires majeures : les plaques amyloïdes extraneuronales et les structures fibrillaires intra-neuronales. Alors que les premières sont constituées par l’agrégation du peptide Aβ, les fibres intra-neuronales, aussi appelées PHFs, sont essentiellement formées par l’agrégation de la protéine Tau hyperphosphorylée.
