Cette étude porte sur les choix d'implantation des espaces funéraires dans les paysages naturels, construits et anciens, par les populations du haut Moyen Age, entre le Ve et le début du VIIIe siècle, dans le Nord de l'Angleterre et l'Est de l'Écosse. Selon les contextes culturels, différentes communautés et leurs élites ont utilisé des caractéristiques naturelles et culturelles dans des mises en scène symboliques de paysages. Entre le Ve et le VIIIe siècle, la région Tyne-Forth devient un carrefour de royaumes bretons et anglo-saxons à partir duquel émerge un des royaumes les plus importants de Grande-Bretagne, la Northumbrie.
