Locus of Control ou Locus of Distribution ? Une application en milieu professionnel

International audienceIt has been observed, as well as to explain received reinforcements (LOC) as to explain behaviors (attribution), that we generally use internal causes. This accentuation of the actor’s weight has been considered, first as an error (Ross, 1977), then as a norm (for Beauvois, 1984, this accentuation would be socially valued). However it has been shown that this increase of value is not systematic, and that, for example, the teachers declaring oneself responsible for the rewards and punishments that they distribute to their students are depreciated by these students (Gangloff, 2004). Developing this last point of view, we show notably here, using questionnaire, that in an organizational context, a hierarchical superior who assigns to external reasons the sanctions, positive or negative, that he manages to his subordinates, is valued. It is also noted that the hierarchical superiors are aware of this valuation. Thus, it would exist, concerning explanation of distributive behaviors of sanctions (i.e. as far as Locus of Distribution is concerned), a preference for external explanations, i.e. a norm of externality.Il a été observé, aussi bien en matière d’explication des renforcements reçus (LOC) que sur le plan des comportements que l’on adopte (attribution), que l’on a tendance à faire appel à des causes internes. Cette accentuation du poids de l’acteur a d’abord été considérée comme une erreur (Ross, 1977), puis comme une norme (pour Beauvois, 1984, cette accentuation serait socialement valorisée). Il a cependant été montré que cette valorisation n’est pas systématique, et que, par exemple, les enseignants se déclarant responsables des récompenses et punitions qu’ils distribuent à leurs étudiants sont dévalorisés par ceux-ci (Gangloff, 2004). Nous situant dans cette dernière approche, nous montrons notamment ici, grâce à une enquête par questionnaire, que dans les entreprises, un supérieur hiérarchique qui attribue à des causes externes les sanctions, positives ou négatives, qu’il administre à ses subordonnés, est valorisé par ces derniers. Il est également mis en évidence que les supérieurs hiérarchiques sont conscients de cette valorisation. Existerait ainsi, en matière d’explication des comportements distributifs de sanctions (c’est-à-dire en matière de Locus of Distribution), une valorisation de l’externalité, i.e. une norme d’externalité
