La thèse s’intéresse au lien étroit qu’établit la théorie économique standard entre les concepts d’efficacité et de concurrence. Les deux notions y sont systématiquement pensées et utilisées conjointement. Au cours du 20ème siècle le lien entre efficacité et concurrence a d’abord pris la forme spécifique d’un énoncé qui affirme l’efficacité de la concurrence, avant de se transformer en véritable identité des deux notions d’efficacité et de concurrence.
