Un premier travail basé sur une méta-analyse de la littérature a permis de révéler le rôle positif des acides gras saturés (AGS) et monoinsaturés (AGMI) sur les concentrations tissulaires en α-tocophérol. Les acides gras polyinsaturés de la famille des oméga-3 (AGPI n-3) auraient, quant à eux, un effet délétère sur les concentrations d'α-tocophérol dans les tissus. Cette observation a été globalement confirmée lors d'un essai in vivo réalisé sur des porcelets en croissance supplémentés avec différentes sources de matière grasse.
