During my PhD, I have participated to the characterization of Pleurodeles waltl (urodele amphibian) antibody heavy chains and to the discovery of a new isotype that we named IgP. I have also demonstrated that each antibody heavy chain has its human counterpart. P. waltl IgM are the counterpart of human IgM. IgY are expressed in mucosa and are therefore the physiological counterpart of human IgA. Finally, IgP are predominantly expressed in larvae and are less diverse than IgM. These two characteristics are shared with antibodies produced by mammalian B1 cells. These studies allowed me to approach the effects of a long term spaceflight on the humoral immune response, i.e. the antibody mediated response, which up to now has been poorly studied...
