Cette thèse analyse les effets des conflits autour des mémoires de la Guerre Civile espagnole et du franquisme sur la construction démocratique dans le temps long et à l’échelle locale, régionale et nationale. L'étude socio-historique des pratiques, des discours et des interactions entre des acteurs tels que l'État, l'Église, les partis, l'historiographie, les associations des victimes ou les familles permet de comprendre comment la mémoire de la Guerre Civile a passé d'être un récit manichéen à un sujet dépolitisé pendant la transition et, une fois la démocratie a été consolidé, un domaine d'action publique et une cause militante hautement conflictuels.
