It appears that the general practitioner (GP) enjoys a privileged position concerning the care of elderly patient pain. The GP experience reveals difficulties concerning the care of such pain which would be less than optimal. In order to investigate this issue, the GP perceptions of this geriatric syndrome have been compiled through a qualitative study. Eleven GPs from lower normandie followed a semi-structured interview.The results show that pain perception in the elderly patient can be influenced by the GP personal representations of the patient and also by the feeling of inevitability of « oldness pains ».
