The aim of this paper is to analyse this historic transformation to understand the pattern it followed, by looking at the influence of popular and children’s arts – literature, film, television – on the redefining of the horse from an emotional and hedonistic point of view. This in-depth analysis will lead us to suggest a typology of contemporary constructs of the imagination and their symbolic relation to the horse.L’entrée de l’équitation dans la société des loisirs en Occident bouleverse les représentations et symbolismes du cheval, simultanément au double phénomène de féminisation et rajeunissement des pratiquants. L’objet de cet article est d’analyser cette transformation historique pour en comprendre les schèmes, en s’interrogeant sur l’influence des arts populaires et enfantins –littéraires, cinématographique et télévisuelles-, dans cette redéfinition affective et hédoniste du cheval. Leur analyse approfondie nous permettra d’avancer une typologie des imaginaires contemporains de la relation symbolique au cheval.
