Advancing contact agnles, θ, for aqueous solutions of the nonionic surfactants, penta(oxyethylene) dodecyl monoether, C12E5, and penta( oxyethylene) decyl monoether, C10E5, have been measured on surfaces prepared from polystyrene, PS, and poly(methyl methacrylate), PMMA, latex particles, as well as on paraffin. Whereas with paraffin, wetting of surfactant solutions is the same as with pure liquids at the same surface tension, wetting is increasingly less efficient relative to pure liquids for PS and PMMA.
