Endoscopic Management of Orbital Abscess-Case Report

The endoscopic approach has become the preferred surgical procedurefor drainage of subperiosteal orbital abscesses ( SPAS) in recent years because it is as effective as the external approach but with less postoperative edema, a shorter hospitalization and no external incision. This case report presents the extended application of endoscopic management of orbital abscess complicating from acute bacterial sinusitis. A female patient had progressed periorbital swelling, ophthalmoplegia and impending blindness in spite of parenteral antibiotic therapy. She underwent endoscopic drainage of her orbital abscess. She hadfull recovery of visual acuity four months after surgery andfull eye ball movement six months after surgery. (Tzu Chi Med J 1999; 11: 83-86
