11th annual Congress of the EUROPEAN COLLEGE OF SPORT SCIENCE 05-08 July LAUSANNE 2006 - SwitzerlandThis paper reviews three coordinated studies that investigated the effects of terrains of varying compliance (sand and a hard surface) during walking, running and jumping. The compliance of sand for each research objective was not significantly different and was verified by measurements using a rapid cone penetrometer. Walking on sand: Fourteen adult males participated with a mean age of 34.6 years, who were 72.6 kg in mass, and 172.5 cm in stature.
