Add to ORKGEarth fissures have damaged the Central Arizona Project (CAP), and threaten to do so again in the future. Many fissures exist near Reach 1 of the Tucson Aqueduct, located west of the Picacho Mountains in Pinal County, Arizona. The hazard posed by fissures in the Brady-Picacho Pumping Plants area was evaluated in a previous study (Slaff, 1991). The "Brady" fissure in particular was identified as one that could damage the Tucson Aqueduct. Slaff and Pearthree (1991) proposed a geophysical investigation to answer important questions regarding the likelihood that the Brady fissure will reach and damage the CAP.
