THE USE OF DIVERSITY TECHNIQUES TO IMPROVE TRACKING & RECEPTION OF TELEMETRY FROM INSTRUMENTED AIRBORNE VEHICLES

Various schemes of optimizing signal strength and quality are currently in use. These include polarization, frequency, space, and time diversity. The question of why, when and what kind of system to be used baffles many of us who are required to make mission-dependent decisions. This paper discusses the nature and magnitude of improvement for the various types of diversity. It also discusses which systems should be used for various mission requirements.
